TGIF everyone! I have been super busy this week, organizing and working on my new projects and new business ventures. I networked with some women this week, and I can tell after spending 3 hours with them, we are gonna have a good working relationship. I’ll detail my new plans in a later post. I haven’t networked in a long time, and I kind of miss being around people. That being said, I must get out at least once a week if I just go to Starbucks, St Louis Bread Company (Panera Bread) or Einstein Brothers to just hang out, have a little coffee and people watch. They are all within 3 minutes of me, serious competition, huh? I’ll try going late mornings, and invite a couple of people to join me. We’ll see how that turns out. My Facebook page is coming along pretty good, thanks to everyone that’s liked my page and of course read and comment on my blog. I appreciate each comment and like.
Congratulations to President Barak Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for the inauguration and the beginning of his second term in office. I found this sketch on Pinterest , I thought it was beautiful.

I went to my daughter’s IEP meeting today and it was an eye opening experience. I’ve been attending these meetings faithfully from the beginning. She’s 17 now, and it’s time to start transitioning her. I have so many questions, concerns, doubts that my head is spinning. I have serious decisions to make, because when she turns 18, she is considered an adult and can do whatever she wants. I do have the ability to become her Power of Attorney, and I may just do that. There is so much you guys, teaching her how to use public transportation, putting her in a work environment that will be conducive to her disability. I never wanted to think my baby couldn’t do anything, and I still believe it, but I must be realistic too. Stay tuned, this is just the beginning of this subject. They sent me home with enough literature to keep me busy for 6 months. I’m going to read every page too. This is the face of autism, isn’t she beautiful?
Ok, here’s my rant for the day. Manti Te’o, talk about some craziness. For those of you unfamiliar with this young man, he’s the one that said his grandmother and girlfriend died within one day of each other. I’ve been following this story, not as close as some but enough to give this story a serious side eye. I believe everything he’s done has to do with being drafted into the NFL, he didn’t want nothing affecting his chances of being drafted. This is the bad part of the internet and social media. Pure madness, be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Have a great weekend, and if you are stuck in the house because of the cold, frigid weather..hold on spring is coming, in a few months!

Love that sketch I hope she can transition good its hard to let her go because this world is so crazy. I heard of this man but I have only seen what has been tweeted I have not actually read much about him.

I love the sketch too, I have so much researching and work to do but in the end she’ll be set up and ready to tackle this world.
Good a.m.! Your daughter is absolutely beautiful & blessed to have you to help with this transition. I’m an advocate & board member for a local advocacy agency & so many ppl in her position get placed in homes or positions with no value. I’m sure you will do just fine placing her in the most appropriate environment. I will keep you all in prayer while you prepare. You have a blessed wkd as well.

Joi, that is my prayer not to have her in a situation/home where there is no love and she is just a number for the state. I have my work cut out for me, but I can do it. Thanks, I’ll probably come to you a lot even though we live in different states.
Hi sweet lady…I’m so excited for you and all that is to come! I know you have been working hard on your blog (as well as other things) and I’m sure the right opportunities will come your way! And your daughter…she is so beautiful and blessed to have you as a mom. It seems you are now armed with plenty of information to help you make the best decision for her well-being. And the football player…words cannot even begin to express this madness. I was just baffled by the fact that he was having a “relationship” with someone he had never met in person! What?!? I cannot understand…. Happy Weekend;)

Thanks Chandra, my daughter has transformed into a beautiful young lady and I look forward to the opportunities that will she will create. She is planning on junior college and working, so I’m just gonna take this year 2013 and help prepare her for the next phase of her life. I’m with you on the football player, I know it’s easy to love someone, but to never see them and keep the lie going that you claim someone else started? You have a great weekend too.
Great post Whitney. I do not know anything about Autism but use the Internet as one of your resources. So many have gone through what you are. Maybe your solution is in what someone else has done. It will all be fine
Letting go is part of being a mom, no matter what the challenges.

Thanks for your support, there are plenty of resources. I just have to take the time, read and research. She sat in the meeting and was smiling ear to ear about being an adult, it was cute.
i think we can all pretty much agree that the sketch is beautiful! ya know, i used to make it a point to get out and work from the coffee shop every other week (once a week hit my pocketbook too much). it’s a great way to stimulate your mind and people watching is a hobby of mine too.
our babies grow up so quickly don’t they?! i know you’ll make the best decisions for your daughter…don’t even worry about that.

Your daughter is gorgeous and you are doing a great job! You’re already planning for her future and I commend your hard work. I’m not sure what to think of the Manti Te’o story/scandal. Congrats on everything with your blog girl!
