What’s Brewing at The Cafe

I want to start off with saying a big thank you!  What a wonderful feeling it is to set a goal and achieve it!  We met our goal of $100!  It was amazing the love and support my daughter has received during our fundraiser for Autism Speaks!  I am overjoyed and humbled by the support.  My daughter was so excited.  She understands her disability or difficulty with social interaction and communication but that doesn’t stop her.  This may have me making some changes regarding my Divatude Challenge.

Scandal….I’m gonna start a support group because ABC keeps giving us 3 to 4 weeks and then takes it off for 3 weeks.  I could hear everyone in Twitter world gasp when they showed the scenes of the next episode and the dreadful words in 3 weeks.  Our hearts can’t take that, stop it ABC.  It was so good though, Jake was like “WTH” when he saw Fitz hugging falling on Liv.  Ok, sorry only #Gladiators will understand that.  I guess I’ll have to find something else to do for the next couple of Thursday evenings, probably work.  Making money is a good trade off.

I would like to announce that I will be accepting requests for guest bloggers.  You don’t have to be over 40, just have something that you would think all women would benefit from.  It could be fashion and beauty, health, family, relationships.  I do ask that it’s positive and no profanity.  My goal is to feature guest bloggers twice a month, more depending on the responses I get.   Please email me your request at agapevirtualenterprises@gmail.com.   I’m also using Bloglovin to follow my favorite blogs now.  You can follow my blog by clicking on the link I provided.

Spring is finally here!  It will be in the 60s and 70s this weekend.  Curly Nikki will be here this weekend and I will be there.  I hope I can get a chance to meet her and take a few pictures to share with you all.  Gotta find something cute to wear and a great comfortable pair of flats.  I don’t wear heels to an event where I will be doing a  lot of standing or walking.  I know my limits.  Hope you all are enjoying spring in your city or town.

How was your week and what’s your plans for the weekend?  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

It’s Friday, winter is holding on, isn’t it? We missed that bad snow storm that hit Kansas City real bad a few days ago, thank goodness. It snowed all day Wednesday but since the temperature was above freezing, it melted the second it hit the ground. It was pretty looking at the big, fluffy snowflakes falling, you could see the pattern in the snowflakes. That being said, I am ready for spring…I know I’ve said that every week for the past month. I promise not to complain when it’s 100 degrees and the humidity is so thick that you can’t breathe….I really do promise.

It’s mom brag day. The school district I live in has a program during Black History Month to celebrate and acknowledge the academic achievements of all students of color that has a cumulative GPA of 3.5. My girls have been part of this celebration since we’ve moved in this district. I’m very proud of them, they both take their education very serious as they should, because I don’t play. I had a conversation with my youngest a few weeks ago, she told me that the kids at school told her that 7th grade doesn’t count. I gave that girl the serious side eye, then I took that moment as another teachable moment for my daughter. I’m real old school when it comes to what you do now will affect you in the future. It doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, because I’ve had some good times, but I just made decisions that I knew would pay off as I got older. I explained to my daughter that if she wants to be an attorney, she must take school serious and not play and try to wait until your senior year to get busy.

This is an honor, these children are chosen because of their academic success, therefore I required my children to put on decent clothing. In my opinion, this is preparing them for dressing for success whether they are an attorney, teacher or entrepreneur. I am preparing my children to work hard and understand that no one will give you handouts, no one. Yes, I can be hard on them, especially when it comes to education, but I love them and they will appreciate it when they are doing whatever it is they chose to do with their lives. I am extremely proud of my girls.

I’m not gonna write a dissertation about this, but I will say that Quvenzhané Wallis is a 9 year old child. We should keep rude, hurtful and ignorant remarks about children out of our writings whether small blogs like mine, or large organizations like The Onion. Children don’t understand satire, and she has the right to correct or help you with the pronunciation of her name. It’s difficult yes, but just take your time, sound it out and say the name. I can’t remember who I saw interviewing her but they told her, we’re just gonna call you “Annie”. I don’t blame her, that’s not her name, her momma didn’t name her Annie. She was adorable on the Red Carpet.

Do yo watch American Idol? If so, check out Curtis Finch, Jr., he attends my church and is a very talented singer. I haven’t seen him sing on the show, but the boy can sing. It will be very exciting how far he makes it on the show. Good luck Curtis!

The season finale of Mary Mary was on tonight, it was a little different this season. I don’t know if it was because of them both having children, touring and everything but they were constantly at each other this season. Working with family is hard, I can only imagine if you have a camera following you around for several months at a time too. I’m not sure if they decided to break up or what, but a break is what I would suggest for them. It was a lot of bickering and Tina was under too much stress, she was always one step from losing it on everyone. Wishing them the best. I watch too much TV.

Spring Time

We’ve had a mild winter, but I’m so looking forward to spring, tulips blooming, leaves on the trees, birds and yes, a little shopping to update my wardrobe. I absolutely love tulips, my love took this picture last year on his route.

I’ve been looking at the new spring fashions and I have to truly say I’m ready to do a little shopping. I have a laid back style, love the carefree maxi dresses that are out now. I like to wear dresses/skirts in the warmer weather because all winter long, I’m in jeans, slacks, tights and leggings. When spring comes, I’m ready to be free.  Time to hit up TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack, DSW, Justice (for my youngest daughter), Gordman’s.  I have to shop for my girls too, so you know it’s gonna be costly.

Spring is also a good time to go through your makeup, maybe donate some clothing, shoes and accessories.  Let’s start with makeup, throw out anything you haven’t used in the last 3-6 months.  Bacteria builds up and it can cause infections.  Also, it would also be a good time to replace any brushes or give them a good spring cleaning and sanitizing.  I’m going through my closet and if I haven’t worn the article of clothing, accessory or shoes in two years, I’m donating the items.  I have plenty of things I don’t wear now because I work from home.  I know that someone could use the items just sitting in my closet, and I could use the closet space too.  I don’t like to donate shoes, because once you have broken in a pair of shoes, the fit isn’t right when someone else tries to wear it.  I’ll give them away if I didn’t get much wear because it was something that was probably not a good fit, like hurting my feet.   I have never been one to wear shoes that hurt my feet.  Did you hear about Octavia Spencer crying on the red carpet because her feet were killing her?  That’s me…I’m the take a flat pair of shoes kinda of woman, you never know what will happen, so I’m prepared.

One of my long time sistah/friends won tickets to Oprah’s Lifeclass coming here to St. Louis on March 26th.  We are attending the evening class which is featuring Iyanla Vanzant.  What a way to start a new season, being able to hear Iyanla speak.  I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time, I was introduced to her when I lived in Los Angeles in the 90′s.

Spring also means no more excuses from me about getting out to walk!  I like to dance for exercise, Zumba, Electric Slide dance classes, but I also like to walk.  Time to dust off the Nike’s and get ready to walk and smell all the pretty flowers and trees blooming.  Love the spring!

Whitney
