July Boost!

Let’s get this month long party started!  The concert was fabulous, Will Downing was amazing as I knew he would be.  He has such a silky, sultry, succulent voice, I could listen to him sing for hours.  We had pretty good seats, in the orchestra section on the last row.  I got some good pictures of him as well as a local saxophonist named Tim Cunningham who we just love as well.

I was out yesterday afternoon doing a little shopping just to see if I could find something to go with those shoes I purchased.  I also went to Sam’s Club to stock up on water and beverages because it’s so hot here in St Louis.  My husband worked Saturday and I knew he was gonna be exhausted from being in the heat all day.  I asked him when I went to get tickets was he sure he would feel like going after working?  He said and I quote, “I’ll be tired, but I want to see Will Downing.  I’ve never seen him in concert before”.  Ok, no problem.  He said he would take a quick nap before the concert.  We get home, he showers first so he can lay down.  I am fooling around with my new dress I purchased and getting things in order.  I used to be a woman that you could depend on being on time no matter what.  Lately, that hasn’t been the case.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m no longer a part of the brick and mortar community of workers or what it is, but I’m just not as timely as I used to be.  I look up and it’s 6:30, the door opens at 7:00 and my husband hates being late.  I go and get the small fan and aim it right at me because I know the rush is on now, and I had about 5 different personal summers while I was getting ready.

Ok, everything is together I go and give the girls the “you know what to do when we leave the house” speech and head out the door.  It’s 105 and I have on a black dress, I forgot to get a bottle of water, put on cologne and forgot my wrap for my arms because you know those venues can be cold.  I get in the truck and we get started, he’s irritated but calm at this point.  I mention that I forgot water, cologne and wrap.  He keeps driving.  So I mention it again.  He turns around, goes back and I felt the heat coming from his forehead for being irritated with me.  I run in the house, take care of my business and we are on our way again.  I mention to him that I don’t have any cash, and that’s when the snapping started.  I’m trying not to ruin the evening, just ignore his remarks.  We are about 3 minutes from the venue and I ask, do we need money for parking?  Well needless to say, he whipped this big SUV into the parking lot.  If I would have had on a wig, it would have been on the floor!  Whew, the brother was hot at me and I was starting to get a little tired of his attitude, so I asked, “why are you yelling?”  You know that didn’t go well….

We park, go into the theater, take our seats and he asked if I wanted something to drink.  I immediately say yes, so we can spend a few minutes away from each other to gather ourselves.  I didn’t want this to be an evening where everyone in the room is arm in arm, hand in hand and you can put a train in between us.  He comes back, sits and I try to start a conversation.  He tells me he’s fine, and told me to enjoy the show.  That means he still mad…really?  I was proud of myself, I left him alone and was ready to groove with Will Downing and when he came out, my attention was focused on him.  My husband got himself together, went and got us another drink and enjoyed the concert.  Don’t you just hate to get worked up about something, then have something happen to disappoint you?   Don’t worry, I had a ball!   Enjoy this video by Will, so smooth…

Let The Music Play

I love music.   It soothes me and puts me in a great mood, no matter what’s going on in my life.    I’m listening to smooth jazz right now as I write this post.  It gets my creative juices working when I’m stuck, stressed or there is nothing on TV.  The other day I put a post on Facebook that I was running errands and listening to some Aretha Franklin.  She was sounding so good too.  I was leaving QuikTrip and a man was parked next to me and he yelled “sing it baby!”   Too funny!  There is always the sound of music in our home, we are always singing or playing it.   I love old school R&B, Jazz and Gospel.  I listen to just about everything, but those are my favorite.  We have a music box in our SUV that we can download our CD’s.  It holds like 2000 songs, we’ve downloaded quite a bit to it to listen to when we take road trips.

When the Mr and I got together, we combined our collection of music.  Much to our surprise, I would say about a third of our music was the same.  He finally got his terabyte, so he’ll be able to take his music anywhere.  Now he wants another, because the one he has can only hold up to 2000 songs.   He didn’t take me with him when he bought it…gotta love him.   Our collection is a investment, you could probably ransack my house as long as you don’t touch our music collection, that’s how serious we are about our music!

Back in the day, I used to record my favorite songs from the radio on a cassette.  Sometimes we bought the album or single (45), but it was just easier to hit the play and record button.   I had a collection of cassette tapes too, we used to buy them by the six pack.   Technology has brought us a long way, now iTunes gets plenty of my money, and they have music on the internet, Pandora, iHeart and several others.  I don’t buy CD’s like I used to.  When I’m working and don’t have the TV on, I’ll tune into one of those and it gets me through the my scheduled work time.

My girls both play musical instruments, and they enjoy it.  They don’t appreciate music like we do, but I’m glad they took an interest in music, how to read and play.  We have spent a pretty penny on instruments.  The only thing that tested my nerves was when my youngest played the violin, it drove me crazy.  She only played it for one year.  She’s playing the trumpet now and is very good.  She’s the only girl in her 6th grade band class.

Coffee, music and the internet….what a way to chill.  The best part about it now, I can take all of them with me.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Take Time To Renew Yourself

Women are caretakers, it’s comes natural for us.  We have different degrees of nurturing, but it’s just what we do.  How often do you take the time to make sure you have a renewed mind, body & spirit?  Do you get enough sleep?  I take that self assessment every time I start to feel sluggish.   Of course with menopause you feel tired all the time, if you take hormones they help a little.  I make sure I get a good nights’ sleep to renew myself.

One of the ways I renew myself is taking me time.  I work from home so you would think I’m able to do that all of the time but I don’t.  When I’m not working, I’m doing something around the house, running errands or mom taxi.  One of the things I do that gives me that refreshed feeling is when I go to the hair salon.  I get to relax, let my hair stylist take care of me while getting my time in with the ladies at the salon.  We always have a good time, sharing stories about our lives, and Stacey and I are always sharing our entrepreneur dreams and plans with one another.  I always leave with a smile.

Music also helps renew my spirit….gospel, old school R&B and jazz.  When I play my music, my mind travels to the time, place or situation of each song, they all have a story about a time in my life.  I have always related to music like that.  I’m working on my YouTube channel, that’s my new thing!  I have Pandora Radio, iHeartRadio and our CD collection.  It’s truly relaxing and it’s a must for me.

Jewelry making is something I started about six years ago and I love it!  I go bead shopping, and will literally spend hours in there!  So I have to order online most of the time because I get in trouble. I like taking the beads and creating something.  I like working with crystals and sterling silver.  They used to call me LaBeada at work.  It’s relaxing but hard on the eyes…can you say bifocals??

I read my bible and pray to unwind every evening, I’m currently reading a series on YouVersion “Living a Divinely Inspired Life” on my iPad.  I like to read before I go to bed so the last thing on my mind is God and how I can get closer to him.

Share with me how you renew yourself…

Whitney
