Happy Birthday Honey!

Today is my husband’s birthday.  He is 57 years old and looks wonderful.  I cooked a ribeye dinner for him Sunday, while he watched MSNBC and football in the man cave.  I bought him a London Fog jacket and a pair of Levi’s, and he loved it.  It doesn’t take much to make this man happy, all it takes is the simple things in life.  Have a wonderful day love and we’ll celebrate more over the weekend.  Hopefully go listen to a little music and have an adult beverage!  MUAH!!!

I’m making a cake for him today….he’ll love that.

Happy Independence Day

It’s July 4th, I can’t believe it.  We are taking it easy today, staying home and probably go downtown to the Arch for the fireworks display this evening.  I thought we were going to my brother-in-law’s house but they aren’t having anything.  It’s too dry around here to do your own personal fireworks in my opinion, my daughter is highly disappointed.  The lawn is brown around this complex, they spend big money on landscaping the entrance area, but no watering the grass.  I can imagine how much our rent would be if they actually did that, so let me shut up.

I had a quiet birthday, I worked for a few hours, picked up my husband, took my daughter to the pool and a friend stopped by to hang out.  We had a good talk, laughed and caught up with each other.  I could sit at the pool every evening chilling and people watching.  It was a good day…

Thanking all veterans for our independence.  Enjoy the holiday and please be safe!

It’s My Birthday!!!

I made it to my 50th birthday!  Yes, thank you Lord!  It’s been a wonderful journey so far and I’m looking forward to the rest of my life.  No regrets, just lessons and adjustments!

My youngest and I did a little shopping yesterday, went to Nordstrom and Whole Foods, next door to each other.  I was going alone, but she asked to join me.  That’s my talker so we had a good time shopping and hanging out.  I discovered yesterday that she is growing out of the size 7-16!  She tried on 4 dresses, and they were all too short.   I’m not too thrilled about Junior sizes, but I guess I better get ready.  It does depend on the store because we love Justice, such a cute store for girls.  I did return those shoes, no big deal just didn’t match anything.

We walked around Nordstrom, tried on a few items and left with some Neutrogena Body Wash.  I love that stuff.  Then we walked over to Whole Foods, purchased a few things, got a little lunch.  We ate our lunch in the truck which was fun.  I wanted to take pictures for the post, but she didn’t want to take pictures while she was eating, don’t really blame her.  Then we headed to TJ Maxx where I did find a nice summer bag.  I love summer purses, they’re carefree and lightweight.  I grabbed that and then we headed home.

I went to pick up my husband from work, sitting and was talking to him on the bluetooth in the truck while he finished his day.  I forgot to turn the ignition back to off and guess what?  I drained the battery, couldn’t believe that!  We took care of that, but probably need a new battery.  Like the baby picture of me?  I had to take this off Facebook, couldn’t find the original.  Well, off to work and enjoy the rest of my day!

July Boost!

Let’s get this month long party started!  The concert was fabulous, Will Downing was amazing as I knew he would be.  He has such a silky, sultry, succulent voice, I could listen to him sing for hours.  We had pretty good seats, in the orchestra section on the last row.  I got some good pictures of him as well as a local saxophonist named Tim Cunningham who we just love as well.

I was out yesterday afternoon doing a little shopping just to see if I could find something to go with those shoes I purchased.  I also went to Sam’s Club to stock up on water and beverages because it’s so hot here in St Louis.  My husband worked Saturday and I knew he was gonna be exhausted from being in the heat all day.  I asked him when I went to get tickets was he sure he would feel like going after working?  He said and I quote, “I’ll be tired, but I want to see Will Downing.  I’ve never seen him in concert before”.  Ok, no problem.  He said he would take a quick nap before the concert.  We get home, he showers first so he can lay down.  I am fooling around with my new dress I purchased and getting things in order.  I used to be a woman that you could depend on being on time no matter what.  Lately, that hasn’t been the case.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m no longer a part of the brick and mortar community of workers or what it is, but I’m just not as timely as I used to be.  I look up and it’s 6:30, the door opens at 7:00 and my husband hates being late.  I go and get the small fan and aim it right at me because I know the rush is on now, and I had about 5 different personal summers while I was getting ready.

Ok, everything is together I go and give the girls the “you know what to do when we leave the house” speech and head out the door.  It’s 105 and I have on a black dress, I forgot to get a bottle of water, put on cologne and forgot my wrap for my arms because you know those venues can be cold.  I get in the truck and we get started, he’s irritated but calm at this point.  I mention that I forgot water, cologne and wrap.  He keeps driving.  So I mention it again.  He turns around, goes back and I felt the heat coming from his forehead for being irritated with me.  I run in the house, take care of my business and we are on our way again.  I mention to him that I don’t have any cash, and that’s when the snapping started.  I’m trying not to ruin the evening, just ignore his remarks.  We are about 3 minutes from the venue and I ask, do we need money for parking?  Well needless to say, he whipped this big SUV into the parking lot.  If I would have had on a wig, it would have been on the floor!  Whew, the brother was hot at me and I was starting to get a little tired of his attitude, so I asked, “why are you yelling?”  You know that didn’t go well….

We park, go into the theater, take our seats and he asked if I wanted something to drink.  I immediately say yes, so we can spend a few minutes away from each other to gather ourselves.  I didn’t want this to be an evening where everyone in the room is arm in arm, hand in hand and you can put a train in between us.  He comes back, sits and I try to start a conversation.  He tells me he’s fine, and told me to enjoy the show.  That means he still mad…really?  I was proud of myself, I left him alone and was ready to groove with Will Downing and when he came out, my attention was focused on him.  My husband got himself together, went and got us another drink and enjoyed the concert.  Don’t you just hate to get worked up about something, then have something happen to disappoint you?   Don’t worry, I had a ball!   Enjoy this video by Will, so smooth…

My Challenge for July

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  I usually don’t blog on weekends but since this is June 30th, and I didn’t blog yesterday, I wanted to share with you my plans for July.  I will be 50 on July 3rd, I’m moving back to my hometown, Kansas City.   I have to pack and organize this move while being wife, mom and maintaining my sanity.  I decided to blog about my activities this month so I can look back on this as hopefully a wonderful memory.  I plan to blog Monday through Friday during the month of July.  I normally blog three days a week, so this will be very interesting.

My only sister died in 1997 at age 49, three months before her 50th birthday.  I have always felt that deep down inside I wasn’t going to make it to my 50th birthday.  I know that sounds bizarre, but I used to let those thoughts bother me.  My sister was 15 years older than me and even though we were like night and day, I looked up to her.  I can’t share pictures of her because my pictures are at the bottom of the pile in our storage area, I’ll post them later in the month when I get down to them.  She didn’t like taking pictures even though she was a beautiful woman.  I feel so blessed that I decided I wanted to blog about my journey on turning 50.  We are starting with a concert to see Will Downing tonight, one of our favorites.  Thank goodness it’s at a nice venue with air conditioning!

I love shoes, if you follow me on Pinterest, it’s one of my biggest boards.  I did a little shopping yesterday, bought these shoes….but I may take them back.  I also have to be practical this month, and they don’t match one thing in my closet!  They are suppose to be beige/tan, but they look pink.  What do you think?  I got them at Nordstrom Rack and paid a bit more than I normally would have.  They are AGL (who???) and the retail price is $325 and I paid $79.  They are extremely comfortable which is very important to me these days, very.  They just don’t match the dress I wanted to wear.   Plan B?  Wear some white pants and a “new” top, that will work!  I’m going out to get me a new blouse/top to wear with these shoes, that will be cheaper.  I’ll post pictures of our evening on Monday.

Then there’s the move…wow, so much to do.  I called the school district and they told me that school starts August 16th, so I’ll have almost two weeks to get them registered in school.  Hopefully that will be painless, they make you bring so much to prove you live in the district.  Ummm, I still own my house in this district, so they’re good, but a policy is a policy.  I’ll have my ducks in a row.  I found a moving company and scheduled them last week, and having utilities turned on this week.  Here’s a picture of the mess “we” have to start packing.  I’m donating a lot of our things, mostly clothing and shoes.  The girls and I have plenty to give away.

I’m off to a good start, but have plenty to do.  Blogging will definitely help me this month, I will apologize to everyone in advance.   Have a great weekend!
