Memories and Heirlooms

My youngest daughter had been asking for a locket for her birthday.  I told her she could earn it, because the one she wanted was pretty expensive.  This would be the fifth chain/necklace for this girl, she breaks and loses them.  Saturday night I found my mothers’ locket that my daddy gave her years ago.   My mother had quite a bit of jewelry and a beautiful fur coat that I inherited when she passed away.  I had jewelry from momma and my sister until someone broke in my home and stole my jewelry in 2007.  Broke my heart, because all they took was my jewelry box and it had all their jewelry in it, except these two pieces.

They are both 14kt Gold and I explained to them both how important these pieces of jewelry were to me, but I wanted them to have them.   They are young ladies now and I know they will take care of the necklaces and cherish my mother and sister’s memory.  They were both very elated and appreciated receiving the jewelry.  I was happy and cried a little, I miss my mom and sister so much.

My momma had four grand daughters, my two and my brother has two daughters.  She didn’t get to spend time with my two nieces, but she was tickled pink when I had my girls.   She was an old school grandma, put baby food in their bottles when they were under 6 weeks old, talking about these babies need food.  The holes in the nipples were the size of a dime almost, it was funny.  I had to sneak and pour that mess out (sorry momma).    It was all good, she did what she knew best and I allowed her to be grandma.

They were so happy and that’s what made me cry a little. They are spoiled, but truly appreciates the smaller things and I’m happy about that.

  3. How sweet that you still had those pieces left to pass down to them! I know EXACTLY what you mean about those old school grandmas! My mother isn’t one, but my children’s dad’s mom is JUST like that! We always disagreed on the whole food in bottle thing! Pretty pieces.

OMG, it was a fight too, because she would tell her friends how I listen to the doctor and not her, so I just let her do her thing and poor that mess out after we left her house. I miss that woman!

I hate it too, the few items that weren’t stolen I had on me or they were hidden somewhere else. I have vintage Coach purses, her fur and a few clothing items.

  6. This was so sweet! It made me think about my grandmother. I still have her coffee table in a closet. I bought a new one a while back, but I can’t make myself throw hers out. It’s the last thing I have of hers.

Can you have it made into something else? I had a ring of my mom’s and I took the diamonds to have a ring made.
