Coffee is absolutely more than a beverage – it’s a warm hug on a cold morning, a pick-me-up when I’m feeling sluggish, a toasty treat that is shared among friends and an adult delight for my taste buds. When getting up in the morning, I like to make a deal with myself that, if I walk to work instead of catching the subway, I can use the two dollars I saved towards getting a special cup of joe, usually enhanced with an almond syrup or upgraded to a skinny vanilla latte. And, on those days that are sunnier, there is something quite lovely about sitting outside of my favorite sidewalk café with a book in one hand, my cup of espresso in the other, and my ears turned to the rhythm of the lively city. You can meet some fascinating people at your local corner café! Clearly, I am quite a fan of coffee, and I know I am not alone. There are estimated to be over 100 million Americans that drink coffee on a daily basis, and we’re not even among the top ten countries with the most coffee consumed per capita.
