Easter Sunday Best Dressed Party

It’s Good Friday and I’m sure you all are busy preparing for Easter or Resurrection Sunday as some churches call it now.  Easter brings back so many wonderful memories of growing up with my youngest brother and nephews, getting all dressed up for church.

I am doing my first Blog Hop link up party.  Please link up your favorite Easter pictures, past or present!  Let’s share our pictures with our Sunday best on!  Here’s my pictures from when I was a child with my brother and oldest nephew.

What’s Brewing at The Cafe

Well we made it through the week.  I just want to update everyone, I have a clean bill of health.  I’ve had a battery of tests, been poked in areas I didn’t think were necessary.  I had the colonoscopy done on Tuesday.  I had to fast all day Monday, then drink a gallon of Colyete that tasted like drinking salt water.  It was to say the least not a fun day, but I got through it and was at the outpatient surgery center bring and early Tuesday morning.  My mammogram was benign, and my pap was good.  I’m done for a while other than working on this weight.  I will probably have this issue for the rest of my life, but I do try to eat right and get some for of exercise.

It’s been a rough week for my youngest daughter with the  bullying issue, you can read about it here.  We’ll get through this bully thing even if it has to get ugly.  One thing I did try to explain to my daughter is when people are bullies, there is something not right in their home life.  I truly believe that, but it’s still no excuse.

I’ll be doing a little shopping for the girls this weekend, one growing like a weed and the other has lost 50 pounds.  Both need clothing that fits them.

Did you all see Iyanla’s Fix My Life last Saturday?  It was an eye opening experience, watching Six Brown Chicks and the issues they face.  Hopefully their will be successful with the relauch of their blog, I’ll be looking for it.  Blogging is a wonderful hobby for me that I enjoy, so I truly hope they work everything out.

I want to give a great shout out to Kita, she comments on every blog post that I put out, I truly appreciate it.  Go check out Kita’s magazine Kokoa Magazine, it’s a refreshing change, let’s support her.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  Thank you all for your support.

Last Day of Blog Challenge!

I know I sound crazy, but this is the last day of my blog challenge.  I completed the challenge of blogging Monday~Friday, during the month of July to celebrate my 50th birthday and moving.  Two things I learned from this ~

1. Never set up a challenge when you are planning a move!  I almost checked myself into the hospital.

2. I will probably go back to blogging 3 days a week, unless I have something that can’t wait.

The challenge did give me some ideas for my blog, topics and things I want to implement.  One thing is to use all my pictures and when I blog about current events, celebrities, or anything that requires a picture of the subject I may just use a video or nothing at all.  That scare about being sued for using someones photographs was enough for me.  I can’t afford to be sued for that.  Understood and will respect the industry and other people’s work.  That means I will be on my quest to get a digital camera for blogging, there are some nice ones, Sony, Cannon, Nikon, Pentax.  Now, I probably will not get it for quite some time, so I will continue to use my iPhone and Kodak digital camera.  I love taking pictures, so I’m so looking forward to this.  I also want to take a creative writing class.  I’ve been asked to guest blog a couple of times and I just want to make sure I’m writing to the best of my ability.  I will probably find one at the community college near our home.

I have met some very nice women in the last month or so, one I want to mention because she has an online magazine coming out.  Her name is Kita and her magazine is KoKoa Magazine and her blog is Say What U Wanna .  The magazine launches tomorrow, August 1st, go check it out.  Brenda, from Pibbles N Me she nominated me one of  ”Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award”!  Thanks Brenda, I really don’t know 7 bloggers that I follow or know enough to pass the award on to, but I appreciate the blog love.  Go check out both of the blogs, they give me blog love all the time.

The girls and I are leaving Thursday morning, so we can be there when the water is turned on and I’m having the carpet cleaned.  I want to clean the place from top to bottom, the girls don’t know how much work they are in for (tee hee).   They are taking their swimming gear for fun when we finish cleaning.  The hubs and furniture will travel on Friday.

I took this picture on Sunday, love the suntan I have if I must say so myself.  I have a cousin that’s a photographer, I am gonna ask her to take portraits of my family this fall.  It’s time, we need new ones.  It was an interesting month, can’t wait to blog about the house and hopefully the transformation that will happen.   Be encourage everyone…

Moodiness, Middle Aged and Random

The last few days I have been in a serious funk….gotta lot going on, moving, finances and then a big disagreement with the Mr.  I don’t know about you, but fights with your spouse/significant others can shut you down.   It was a big one, the kind that leave you not talking to each other.   Of course we are past it, but I can’t seem to get past the moody mess I’m in.  The mood swings I have along with the personal hot summers has got to be the two things that drive me crazy with menopause.  I haven’t really been out of the house for the last 3 or 4 days, think that has anything to do with it?  I’ve been so busy with planning this move, I just haven’t had the time to get out, and I’ve been working as much as I can from my customer service job, I missed church Sunday.  I really hated that.  I started not to even blog about it, but that’s what this blog is for….share my story on being a middle aged woman, 2012 style!  I’m all over the place today, as you can see.  I’m working so much now because my birthday week, the week of July 1-7  I’m not doing much at all.  Yes, it will be all about me for that week, you only turn 50 once.  I’m starting it off with going to see Will Downing, I am so excited!  Well I hope we are going, it’s June 30th.  I haven’t seen him in about 8 years.  The Mr and I really like going to concerts, I’m taking him to a concert on Father’s Day.   It’s an old school group for the 70′s, The Dramatics.  We tried to go last year, the venue sucked and we left.  That’s his gift for Father’s Day, plus we’ll go get something to eat after church.

It will be nice to get back to living in my house, I actually miss it.  I put in on the market when I moved to St Louis in 2010, which was a bad time for real estate.  I had plenty of traffic, and one offer from an investor.  He offered pennies, and we actually were gonna accept his offer until we realized we could move back to the house, fix it up ourselves and sell it for a profit.  That’s exactly what the guy was gonna do.

These pictures are memories we had from our house in Kansas City, my youngest is almost as tall as me now.  Can’t wait to get back, create a few more memories….I feel better already!  How do you get out of a moody funk?  Be encouraged, I am!

Justice For Trayvon Martin

As many of you, I was sadden by the death of Trayvon Martin, as well as many other youths that have died due to senseless violence.  This has hit a place in my heart that will not go away, my spirit has truly been affected by his death.   I’ve been keeping up with the different reports on the TV, Social Media and the Internet.  Everyday, more evidence comes out that let’s us all know that George Zimmerman has lied about Trayvon attacking him and shooting him in self defense.  The police department has also withheld evidence and didn’t notify the family of Trayvon’s death.  Instead of notifying the family, they were testing Trayvon for drugs and alcohol.   Tracy Martin dad called the police to inquire about his missing son.  They went to his home, asked him to identify himself, asked several questions and that’s when he found out his son was dead.  It’s my opinion that the mayor, police chief and those that worked on this case need to resign or be fired pending investigations.

I have signed a petition and asking you all to sign the petition for criminal justice in this case to have George Zimmerman prosecuted.   Just click the button to your right of the picture of Trayvon and sign the petition.   I have made both of my children Google Trayvon Martin’s name and read about his death so we can have a family discussion about this.  I have protected my girls and normally don’t mention much to them about violence in the news.   We have decided to sit them down and discuss this child’s senseless death and teach them more about safety and how to protect themselves in this world.  We have talked to the girls of course, but just feel we need to have a discussion with them again.

My prayers go out to his parents, Tracy Martin and Sabrina Fulton and their family.  I just saw an interview on Rev. Al Sharpton’s Politics Nation and both of them said they will fight for justice for their son until the day they die.   Let’s pray that justice will be served for Trayvon Martin.   Please..

Whitney
